Ajman: A 10-year-old Arab girl fell to her death from the balcony of her fifth-floor flat in Al Jurf area in Ajman on Tuesday, Gulf News reported.
Lieutenant Colonel Yahya Khalf Al Matroushi, director-general of Al Hamidyah Police station, said the girl died after she slipped and fell to the ground.
Witnesses saw the girl lying motionless on the ground and alerted police operations room. The girl was taken to the hospital where she succumbed to her injuries.
Police said the girl was alone at home and unsupervised as her family went shopping and when they came back home around 3pm, they didn't find the girl and called the police.
Police took the family to the hospital where they confirmed that the body was of their daughter.
The girl's mother told police that her daughter was fasting and came tired from school. They asked her to join them to go for shopping but she preferred to stay at home.
The body, which was shifted to the Khalifa Hospital and later to the forensic laboratory, will be handed over to the parents after completing the formalities.
Lt Col Al Matroushi appealed to parents to ensure that their children are always under supervision.
