Bahrain’s unique medical protocol to combat the outbreak of the Novel Coronavirus (Covid-19) was highlighted during a Press conference last night.
Combined with extensive national efforts in place to step up preventive and precautionary measures in place, Bahrain has incorporated the best practices implemented by experts in China, the UAE and Oman to treat Covid-19 patients.
BDF Hospital infectious diseases consultant and microbiologist and Coronavirus Control and Monitoring Committee Head Lieutenant Colonel Dr Manaf Al Qahtani highlighted that Bahrain’s treatment protocol is unique and unavailable in other countries.
“We have implemented a treatment protocol in Bahrain that is unique and isn’t available in another country because this is a new disease,” he said.
“These treatments weren’t used on a vast number of patients and given the number of cases the we have we have been able to identify the appropriate time to start the treatment as well as the specific cases that need treatment.”
“The statistics in Bahrain’s aren’t scary but they are proof of our capabilities to identify those who are positive as well as isolate them from society”
Meanwhile, Covid-19 Taskforce Head Dr Jameela Al Salman highlighted that there is no single treatment for Covid-19 but there are medicines that have been implemented globally.
“Our unique treatment protocol was designed after incorporating the best practices of experts from China, as they have treated vast numbers of people as well as our colleagues in Dubai and Oman who also have cases,” she stated.
“We also took into account scientific research and experiments that were conducted in the field and we gathered all this information to create our treatment protocol.”
She also emphasised the importance of adhering to official instructions, especially those asked of people in home quarantine to limit the spread of the virus, maintain good personal hygiene, refrain from using public transport and monitor their own symptoms and immediately contact 444 should any symptoms arise.
People returning from Italy, South Korea, Egypt or Lebanon were also urged to schedule their medical examination by visiting www.moh.gov.bh/444 or calling 444.
