Doha: Head of Qatar's Mission to the European Union Shaikh Ali bin Jassim Al-Thani called on Europeans to exert their utmost efforts to help release the two Qatari nationals kidnapped in Iraq and who entered the Iraqi territory with a permit from Iraq's Interior Ministry in coordination with the Iraqi Embassy in Doha.
Speaking at the annual meeting of the GCC-EU committee of political dialogue experts which was held in Brussels, Shaikh Ali called on the European Community to intervene rapidly to urge the Iraqi government take measures to ensure the safety of the rest of Qatari detainees and secure their release as soon as possible.
Shaikh Ali affirmed that the State of Qatar rejected such terrorist acts, which constitute a breach of the international law and a violation of human rights, calling on the European side to cooperate with the Qatari authorities in this regard due to the close relations between the two sides.
The Qatari diplomat renewed Qatar's keenness to find a political solution to the Syrian crisis in accordance with the Geneva Conference I.
He noted that the State of Qatar did not hesitate a moment to provide all necessary assistance for Syrian refugees to ease their suffering after five years and allotted for this purpose more than $ 1.2 billion since the crisis broke out in 2011.
He referred to Qatar initiative, entitled Educate A Child, which allowed over 600 000 Syrian children to return to schools, saying by the end of the year 2016 the number will increase to one million kids in addition to 100 scholarships for Syrian refugees to enroll in Sorbonne University in France, allocated 2.300.000 million for education in refugee areas in partnership with UNICEF and allocated two schools for Syrian children and preparing for a third one as the Syrian community in Qatar estimated at 54.000 Syrian refugees .
Head of Qatar's Mission to EU confirmed Qatar's rejection of all forms of violence and extremism as well as its explicit condemnation of terrorist acts, wherever they are, and the State's commitment at all levels to combat such criminal acts within the international mechanisms, especially that terrorism has become a global serious phenomenon, which requires all efforts to curb it.
