MANAMA: Standard Chartered Bank (SCB) has launched the “SC Women in Tech Bahrain – cohort 2”, in co-operation with the Supreme Council for Women (SCW) and the Bahrain FinTech Bay.
The programme aims to support female entrepreneurs and women-led new companies in Bahrain.
SCW member Shaikha Hessa bint Khalifa Al Khalifa said the launch of the second edition of the “SC Women in Tech Bahrain” follows the success of the first edition.
It is part of the SCW’s keenness to support Bahraini women’s participation in various development fields, including entrepreneurship in the digital field, which is an essential pillar of the National Gender Balance in the Field of Future Sciences.
SCB’s chief executive Abdulla Abdulrazaq Bukhowa stressed the bank’s commitment to implementing equal opportunities and gender balance principles.
Mr Bukhowa indicated that the programme aims to support new companies led by women in Bahrain, through providing an incubator for them.
Bahrain FinTech Bay CEO Khalid Dannish asserted that the “SC Women in Tech Bahrain” programme will provide a platform for female entrepreneurs to showcase their skills and accelerate the implementation of their projects.
The programme will focus on 10 shortlisted female-led businesses by offering them the chance to take part in an eight-week workshop, where they will have access to subject matter experts.
These experts will help these businesses scale up and equip them with the necessary skills to thrive in today’s business environment.
Once the workshop is completed, the 10 shortlisted businesses will have to pitch their ideas/concepts along with their business plans to a panel of judges, who will select the top five winners.
They will receive $10,000 each along with three months of residency at the Bahrain FinTech Bay.
