“Bahrain is committed to maintaining regional and international security, as it hosts the Combined Maritime Forces and the International Maritime Security Construct,” said Bahrain’s Ambassador to the US Shaikh Abdulla bin Rashid Al Khalifa, stressing that peacemaking is the kingdom’s strategic choice.
He was addressing the forum hosted by the Institute of Politics of Harvard University, titled “The Abraham Accords: A Pathway to Peace with Economic Prosperity”.
Shaikh Abdulla said Bahrain is an important ally of the US, and is the headquarters of the US Fifth Fleet.
He said the vision of His Majesty had a fundamental role in the historical step to sign the Abraham Accords Declaration with Israel.
Relations between Bahrain and Israel, which are undergoing co-operation in economic, environmental and technical fields, have also led to an important regional social development, he said.
“When we talk about the Abraham Accords, we talk about hope, positivity and opportunities. We share many common challenges and we can learn from each other.”
The Ambassador also said Bahrain remains committed to the Arab Peace Initiative and the two-state solution leading to the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital, and that the historic step taken by Bahrain aims to bring the region closer to achieving a just and comprehensive peace.
The UAE’s Ambassador to the US Yousef Al Otaiba, and former deputy administrator and chief operating officer of the US Agency for International Development Bonnie Glick also took part in the event.
