A SERIES of virtual events marking International Yoga Day were held in Bahrain under the patronage of the Indian Embassy.
Around 15 online and hybrid events featuring the benefits of daily yoga practice and demonstrations by experts were organised in less than three weeks in the country to mark the seventh edition of the occasion.
Immunity
The events which kicked off on June 4 with “Holistic Approach to Yoga for Immunity” will conclude on Friday with “Yoga at Every Home”.
The importance of the theme for this year’s celebration, ‘Yoga for Wellness’, and its relevance amidst the pandemic was highlighted on all the platforms.
Indian Ambassador Piyush Sirvastava said the events received an enthusiastic response from the Indian and Bahraini community members, yoga enthusiasts and children.
“In today’s world struggling with the Covid-19 pandemic, we have realised the importance of health in our lives and the need to balance both mental and physical health amidst the busy lives that we lead.
“Yoga is a great tool to achieve this balance.”
On Monday, an event focusing on the morning yoga protocol and exercises was organised in association with Art of Living (AoL).
It was led by Mr Srivastava and attended by National Health Regulatory Authority (NHRA) alternate medicine head official Namat Al Subaie as chief guest, and more than 100 participants.
In the evening, a yoga demonstration and workshop, ‘Let’s Yoga Together’, was attended by Bahrain India Society chairman Abdulrahman Juma, Health Ministry health promotion director Dr Wafaa Al Sharbati and Sri Sri Yoga International director Girin Govind.
An online yoga workshop by Bahrain Media City, Aatma Yoga Academy and Cochin Kalabhavan was also held.
The embassy also organised workshops, meditation sessions, quiz contests, a short film competition on “Yoga and its benefits”, yogasanas, suryanamaskar challenge, immunity enhancement programmes and special sessions for women.
Meanwhile, another series of events by Bahrain India Cultural and Arts Services witnessed the participation of prominent personalities.
Programmes
Among them were Indian MP Dr Vinay Sahasrabuddhe, Royal Humanitarian Foundation Secretary General Dr Mustafa Al Sayed, Indian Ayush Ministry Secretary Rajesh Kotecha and Labour and Social Development Ministry Assistant Under-Secretary Ahmed Al Haiki, among others.
The closing event on Friday is being organised in association with the Bahrain Chapter of The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India.
