BABY Maria, who entered the world as a surprise bundle of joy, is doing well under expert care in Bahrain’s main hospital.
Born minutes after her twin brother, Mohammed, at their Ma’meer home, the beautiful Bahraini girl, weighing a mere 1.6kg, will have to remain at Salmaniya Medical Complex (SMC) until she gains a little more weight.
The GDN reported yesterday on the eventful birth of the twins, with two paramedics who came to take pregnant Eman Ali Hassan to hospital, ending up in assisting her with the deliveries.

“Maria was born underweight and placed on intravenous fluid. She is coping well,” a medic confirmed to the GDN. “She may have to gain weight, at least around 2kg, before she can go home. She is also being fed with her mother’s milk, brought from home.”
Meanwhile, the older of the two, baby Mohammed, is also doing fine with his mother and two older sisters – Safia, six, and Malakh, two, at home, said their happy father, Sadiq Mohammed, a 30-year-old Bahraini driver.
The GDN reported yesterday that the birth of the twins was a pleasant surprise to paramedics, Indian Prince Joseph and his assistant and driver Bahraini Abdullah Adnan. They had rushed in response to Mr Mohammed’s 999 call to take his 27-year-old wife to hospital only to find she had already given birth to one child and had another on the way. They were not expecting twins to arrive.
The crew swiftly helped mum as both babies were still attached to her umbilical cord and in less than 20 minutes they were able to take the exhausted mother and the babies to hospital for check-ups.
