BAHRAIN has officially unveiled a plan to launch electronic passports.
The e-passport is among 24 initiatives to develop the services of the Nationality, Passports and Residence Affairs (NPRA).
These are part of Bahrain’s Economic Recovery Plan and were announced at the weekly Cabinet meeting yesterday, chaired by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, at Gudaibiya Palace.
The Interior Minister submitted a memorandum detailing the sweeping initiatives which will offer a warm welcome to visitors and contribute to enhancing the competitiveness of the kingdom and supporting development across economic, investment and service sectors.
Under the new plan, instant and electronic visas as well as the King Fahad Causeway visa will be expanded.
A Trusted Traveller System and a training visa will be introduced.
Bahrain has also introduced a residence permit for foreign wives of Gulf nationals and scrapped the passenger arrival card.
Passports will be delivered inside Bahrain and abroad, and fees levied on multi-entry visas will be reduced.
