Ahmed Hossam of Egypt yesterday won the under-18 boys’ title in the 26th BBK Juniors Open Tennis Championship, organised by Bahrain Tennis Club (BTC).
In the final, Hassam sealed a 6-3, 6-4 win over Bahrain’s Ali Darion.
Ahmed sealed an easy victory over Alston Dsouza 6-1, 6-1 in the semi-final to claim the final berth. In the other under-18 boys’ semi-final, Ali battled past Shadi Mounir 6-4, 7-6(3).
Later, Sophie De Boer of the Netherlands prevailed over Eira Corral of the Philippines to claim the under-18 girls’ crown. Sophie defeated Eira 6-2, 6-3 in the title clash.
Sophie reached the final after defeating Hajjar Zaidan 7-6(1), 6-3 in the semi-final while Aditi Jacob gave a walkover to Eira.
The tournament finale was held under the patronage of BBK chief executive Dr Abdulrahman Saif. Present at the awarding ceremony were His Majesty King Hamad’s adviser for youth and sports affairs Saleh Isa Bin Hindi, Egypt’s Ambassador to Bahrain Yasser Shaban, Philippine Embassy Charges d’Affaires Maria Paz Cortes, Bahrain Triathlon Association president Abdulla Abdulrahim Abdulsalam, BTC president Khamis Al Muqla and BTC member Dr Faisal Al Mosawi.
