A cafe owner in Paju, South Korea, has been arrested for allegedly locking a woman inside an industrial freezer, resulting in her death from hypothermia.
The victim had arrived on September 3 to inspect counterfeit gift certificates valued at 50 billion won (approx $37.3 million).
Before leading her into the unit, the suspect instructed her to leave her mobile phone in a vehicle, cutting off any chance of escape.
Investigators confirmed the crime was meticulously planned, as the suspect had leased the freezer in advance and searched online for the physical effects of sub-zero temperatures.
Surveillance footage showed him monitoring the trapped victim over a 26-hour period before her body was discovered on September 4.
The suspect has since been referred to prosecutors on charges of premeditated murder.
