A BRITISH Royal Navy frigate operating under a Bahrain-based task force has seized more than 95kg of illicit narcotics worth $4 million from a fishing vessel.
The HMS Montrose confiscated the drugs on May 5 in the Gulf of Oman. The cache of heroin has an estimated street value of $4m, the Combined Maritime Forces (CMF) said in a statement.
HMS Montrose operates as part of Combined Task Force (CTF) 150, which is one of three task forces under the Bahrain-based CMF. The frigate has been operating in the Middle East since March 2019 and this is the fourth successful CTF 150-led narcotics interception this year.
Pakistani Navy Commodore and CTF 150 Commander Vaqar Muhammad praised ‘the vigilance and enhanced patrolling by CTF 150 units against illicit activities in the maritime domain’.
