The second volume of the book, World Heritage in Arab Countries, was launched yesterday in Arabic, English and French at the National Library in Rabat, Morocco.
Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities (Baca) president Shaikha Mai bint Mohammed Al Khalifa, Royal Court director and Ribat Al Fath Society chairman Dr Abdulkarim Banani, National Library director general Mohammed Al Farran, Bahrain’s Ambassador to Rabat Khalid Al Musallem and other officials attended. The book documents the Arab material heritage.
The first volume was launched at the Unesco headquarters in Paris and the Manama-based Arab Regional Centre for World Heritage which is celebrating the 10th anniversary of its establishment.
A film showcasing main Arab archaeological sites was also shown during the ceremony, amid calls to step up efforts to conserve heritage vestiges in the region.
According to the second volume, the overall number of sites featuring on the Unesco World List topped 86 to date, up from 66 sites cited in the first volume.
