The Manama Singers and Bahrain Chamber Orchestra - The American School of Bahrain
They are back! The Manama Singers and the newly-formed Bahrain Chamber Orchestra performed a sell out concert at The American School of Bahrain.
The famous Manama Singers Wall of Sound was just as glorious as ever when it came into play and the more delicate renditions of well-known favourites had us all pinned entranced in our seats.
The choice of school library was genius, as the acoustics were just right no matter where we were seated.
The concert was divided into two sections; the first half being given over to The Bahrain Chamber Orchestra who set the scene for an evening of glorious music, and the second half devoted to the Manama Singers, with a finale including both the Singers and the Orchestra to the delight of the concert-goers.
The Manama Singers have seen many conductors come and go in their almost 50 years of performing concerts in Bahrain and Ms Diciolla proved herself to be one of the best with her superb and effortless control of the choir. And, the orchestra, set up earlier this year and led by music teacher Scott Regal, proved to be not only talented but powerful musicians who have blended their talents to make a wonderful orchestra in a very short space of time.
Their rendition of the Bond movie theme at the close of their session brought the audience under their wings and no doubt attracted bookers and audiences for future events.
Their earlier pieces were splendid, including Bach, (always a favourite), but, I suspect, most of the audience wanted a more light-hearted end to their week and the choice of ‘Bond’ was perfect!
As to the singers, they mixed the work of English composer John Rutter, with jazz and show tunes with great elan, closing with the hauntingly beautiful ‘Time to Say Goodbye’.
I, for one, cannot wait for their next concert.
