SPOTLIGHT will be on the Bahrain National Museum as a number of events have been lined up to celebrate the national landmark this month.
The events, beginning with the ‘Power of Museums – Youth’ on Saturday, have been organised by the Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities.
It will take participants on a fun-filled journey and introduce them to the national landmark in a novel way.
A dialogue titled ‘Talk with Archaeologist’ will be held on Saturday at 5pm. The session aims to raise awareness about the importance of safeguarding artefacts and the scientific methods that should be followed to preserve them.
All parties will be urged to enhance public awareness about the need to value artefacts and archaeological sites as they testify to a deeply-rooted history and ancient civilisation.
A discussion on the novel The Amphibian Abu Shallakh by Dr Ghazi Al Gosaibi will be held on Wednesday.
The novel begins spontaneously with dialogues, with Abu Shallakh recounting his conversations and memories through the beginnings of time. It is written in the novelist’s usual black humour comic style, unveiling the mysteries of history, events, facts and persons. Join the talk at 6.30pm.
Citizens and residents will have the opportunity to meet the volunteer team at the museum for a unique guided tour on August 19. Registration is required for the event which begins at 6pm.
A special Museum Scavenger Hunt will be held right after the tour at 7pm. Twenty teams, each consisting of two partners, will compete to find a solution to puzzles presented by answering a number of questions in the light of the information shared about the different sections of the museum. Those interested are required to register for the Scavenger Hunt separately.
A writing workshop titled ‘The Art of the Story’ will take place on August 20. It will review and explore the basic principles of creative writing and unique elements of a story.
It will also present multiple models and exercises to refine the writing skills of participants while developing creative thinking.
The workshop is open to children aged nine to 13 and begins at 6pm. Registration is required.
A guided tour of the Bu Maher Fort in Muharraq is being organised on August 26. Participants will be accompanied by the museum’s distinguished team of volunteers and later join the Kashta Tours group. The tour begins at 5pm and registration is mandatory.
‘Object’s Inspiration’ is a discussion panel that will shed light on the creative production of artworks inspired by the Object of the Month collection at the Bahrain National Museum.
The panel will consist of a group of participants specialised in different art forms, such as graphic designers, architects, photographers and illustrators, supervised by Bahraini architect and photographer Jaafar Al Haddad.
The event on August 27 begins at 6pm.
The ‘Power of Museums’ programme will conclude on August 27. All events, except the Bu Maher tour, will take place at the Bahrain National Museum and is open to those aged 18 years and above.
