The final list of candidates eligible to run in the upcoming parliamentary and municipal elections is set to be announced on Wednesday, it has emerged.
The High Court of Appeals has issued its rulings on 66 objections – 43 filed by candidates and 23 by voters.
The court held 14 sessions, each lasting approximately five hours to hear appeals and objections.
Last week, the court remained in session for more than 10 hours to issue verdicts on remaining appeals, paving the way for final lists to be unveiled, according to a report in our sister paper Akhbar Al Khaleej.
Civil society organisations can submit requests to monitor the electoral process until tomorrow.
The GDN earlier reported that MPs Youssef Al Thawadi and Adel Al Asoomi have lost their bids to run in the elections, while seven other MPs decided not to submit their nominations for a new term.
Meanwhile, Isa Youssef, Saleh Al Sada, Nadia Al Omar and Hameed Sultan will contest the elections after filing objections.
Akhbar Al Khaleej surveyed 339 candidates – 74 of whom were women.
The Northern Governorate has the highest number of candidates with 104 hopefuls, followed by the Capital Governorate (89), Muharraq (79) and the Southern Governorate (76).
