Plans to construct Middle East's first space rocket launch facility in Oman are in the works.
The National Aerospace Services Company's Etlaq Space Launch Complex, which is situated in the port city of Duqm, may witness its first rocket launch in early 2024.
The centre won't be completed, though, in the next three years.
Building a launch centre for commercial, professional, and educational rocket users to assemble, test, and launch from is one of two primary objectives of the company with the Duqm launch land, according to Nascom.
The launch facility will be available locally for educational research programmes and globally for growing rocket enterprises.
Private space businesses like Virgin Galactic and Blue Origin are interested in building spaceports in the Middle East, particularly in the Emirates. However, despite the UAE's space strategy calling for the establishment of a launch pad for space tourism flights, nothing has come to pass.
Due to the possibility of using the launch pad for orbital launches, Oman's plans might significantly advance the region's space programmes.
