THE Shura Council has pledged to help combat the spread of alien ideologies, thoughts and concepts among the nation’s youth.
This came as the upper chamber of the National Assembly approved a roadmap for new legislations that focus on women and youth empowerment, improving living standards, and consolidating financial and economic initiatives.
The amended reply to His Majesty King Hamad’s speech at the opening of the first session of the sixth legislative term was given an unanimous go-ahead by members, at their weekly session yesterday.
The response by the Shura Council, along with that of Parliament, will be presented to the King at a date to be determined by the Royal Court.
“We have to stand united against the spread of alien ideologies, thoughts and concepts that target our youngsters and deviate them from focusing on development and contributing to the country,” said member Fouad Al Haji.
“The issue needs a tough stance and legislations and tough measures are needed against concepts that contradict religion and the Sharia,” he added.
Member Juma Al Ka’abi backed his colleague, saying that religious values and traditions would be safeguarded.
“We don’t, and never will, accept any invasion of alien concepts that contradict human nature and seek to integrate into society,” he said.
“Any foreign thought that is unacceptable has no place in this country.
“Efforts to combat the spread of alien culture will be strengthened as we work on legislations focusing on women and youth empowerment alongside economic and financial reforms.”
Shura Council Chairman Ali Al Saleh said the issue contained in the reply to His Majesty’s speech would be taken as a commitment by the members.
“The reply is a comprehensive approach to our work over the next four years which we will build on every year.”
In his speech at the opening of the new terms of the National Assembly last month, the King said his main concern would always be protecting the nation’s interests and deepening national unity.
He assured everyone that he wouldn’t allow, in any way or form, the compromising of the country’s system of values and traditions.
