TRADE union representatives at Arab Shipbuilding and Repair Yard Company (Asry) should be allowed paid time off to work on behalf of their members, according to MPs.
They unanimously approved a proposal yesterday to reintroduce the move that was axed more than three years ago.
MPs also urged the government to reinstate and compensate four Alba workers from the energy department who were sacked following a recent incident.
They approved the re-opening of Shaikh Abdullah Bin Khalid Kidney Dialysis Centre in Hunainiya, which was used as a command centre for medical teams during the Covid-19 pandemic.
The proposals will be reviewed by the Cabinet.
Meanwhile, Parliament first deputy speaker Abdulnabi Salman stressed the need for all corrupt officials to be held accountable for their actions.
“Every corrupt individual, from a minister to an office boy, should be named and shamed,” he said. “They should face the consequences so that it sets an example for others to refrain from misusing public money.”
MPs also unanimously approved a proposal to issue statements at the 146th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union to be held at Exhibition World Bahrain, Sakhir, from Saturday to March 15. There will be no Shura Council and Parliament sessions next week.
A proposal to form a parliamentary probe panel to assess the government’s food security policies and prices of commodities was approved yesterday.
MPs also voted unanimously to launch an investigation into Labour Market Regulatory Authority’s performance over the last few years.
Parliament is set to hold an open debate on Housing and Urban Planning Ministry’s policies and projects. Mr Al Musallam would schedule a date for Minister Amna Al Romaihi to appear in the chamber. The minister yesterday responded to four questions by MPs on social housing financing and projects.
MPs also approved government plans to join the International Dates Council and referred the legislation to the Shura Council.
