A reception to mark the 247th anniversary of the independence of the United States of America was held last night at the Diplomat Radisson Blu Hotel and Spa.
Ambassador Steven Bondy welcomed ministers, senior government officials, diplomats, Shura Council members, academics and journalists who attended the ceremony.
“This year, we celebrate 247 years of American independence,” said Mr Bondy. “The principles laid out in our Declaration of Independence – life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness – launched our nation.
“This spirit characterises our long and deep friendship with Bahrain, and underscores the importance of our shared, hopeful vision for the future.”
US Independence Day is celebrated annually on July 4 back home but marked a few weeks earlier in Bahrain to avoid the sizzling summer heat and to attract people who may be travelling away from the island on summer holiday.
