SUPPORTERS of a major community outreach programme against violence and addiction have been honoured at a ceremony in Bahrain.
Interior Minister General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdulla Al Khalifa attended the celebration organised by Ma’an (together) programme yesterday.
He also launched the Ma’an security awareness exhibition 2023.
Present were Social Development, Justice, Islamic Affairs and Endowments, Information Affairs, Education, Youth Affairs ministers and senior officials.
The Interior Minister expressed gratitude for the outcomes of the programme within the community security system. He praised the performance of Bahrainis and their capabilities to combat challenges, achieve goals and continue operations with excellence.
He said: “The increase in the number of schools and students the programme covers and the development and introduction of new awareness curricula on peaceful coexistence, anti-extremism, and cybersecurity showcase its flexibility to tackle security and social changes.”
He noted that active security awareness requires the expansion of the use of modern technology, advanced methods and ongoing operations to reinforce community partnership to reach out to the targeted audiences.
Interior Ministry Under-Secretary for Nationality, Passports and Residence Affairs (NPRA) and head of Ma’an Committee Shaikh Hisham bin Abdulrahman Al Khalifa said the support and directives of the Interior Minister had contributed to the implementation of all the programme’s initiatives and activities that aim to protect generations and enhance security awareness and social responsibility.
He said that the initiatives are based on citizenship principles and back the crime prevention efforts of the ministry.
Security is the responsibility of the community, including all individuals and segments of society; therefore, Ma’an, as one of the initiatives of the National Plan to Promote the Spirit of Belonging to the Nation and Reinforce the Values of Nationalism, works to change wrong thoughts and behaviours among young people, he pointed out.
He said that the programme covers 196 out of 211 schools and 136,000 students, which contributed to reducing wrong practices at schools by 56 per cent.
The Interior Minister honoured members of the National Anti-Drug Committee, representatives of some co-operative organisations and outstanding police personnel who teach the various curricula.
He expressed appreciation to all of them for being successful partners of the programme, describing it as a distinguished community initiative.
