ON the occasion of the 125th anniversary of the birth of the Filipino nation, Philippines Ambassador Anne Jalando-On Louis has the following to say:
“Every June 12, we celebrate the Anniversary of the Proclamation of Philippine Independence.
“The theme for this year’s celebration of Philippine Independence is ‘Kalayaan (freedom), Kinabukasan (future), Kasaysayan (history)’.
“Our celebration this year highlights the proclamation of Philippine independence on June 12, 1898, in Kawit, Cavite, Philippines, until the end of the first Philippine government that lasted until the capture of President Emilio Aguinaldo in Palanan, Isabela, Philippines, on March 23, 1901.
“This indicates the Philippines’ place in history as the earliest modern democracy and republic in Asia, with a long history of upholding democratic ideals and principles, universal human rights, justice, the rule of law, and the values of freedom and sovereignty.
“The official theme song of our Independence Day celebration, entitled, ‘Samo’t Saring IIsa’, aptly describes our country and its people – we are diverse, but in our diversity also lies our strength and unity.
“Even with our differences, we stand united, moving forward towards development and progress.
“I greet all my countrymen in the Kingdom of Bahrain a most meaningful celebration of Philippine Independence Day.
“May we all continue to remain inspired and encouraged by the legacy of our heroes and forebears who fought for our country’s freedom more than a century ago.
“I hope that the fire of love for our country and for our people will remain burning in your hearts even as you find yourselves working and living overseas.
“This year, we are also celebrating a milestone in our longstanding ties with the Kingdom of Bahrain, as we are likewise commemorating the 45th Anniversary of the Establishment of our Diplomatic Relations.
“The Philippines’ excellent relations with the Kingdom of Bahrain these 45 years have been characterised by friendship, respect and understanding.
“We look forward to enhancing our partnership with Bahrain through continued collaboration and co-operation across various fields.
“We thank His Majesty King Hamad, His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, the government and people of Bahrain for their invaluable support and contributions that continue to strengthen the foundation of our bilateral ties.
“To all the Filipinos in Bahrain, Maligayang Araw ng Kasarinlan!
“And to our Bahraini friends, thank you and Mabuhay!”
