HSBC, one of the world’s leading banks, has clarified that its Bahrain operation is open for business as usual.
Responding to a query from the GDN, the bank said there was no impact on its customers as a result of an administrative change relating to the classification of an internal operating unit.
“HSBC Bank Middle East Limited Retail Branch is licensed by Central Bank of Bahrain (licence number RB/004), is registered under commercial registration number 330-1, and will continue to operate and provide banking services as normal in the Kingdom of Bahrain,” said a spokesperson for the bank.
“Our decision to simplify the operational structure of HSBC Bahrain supports our strategic priority to ‘Energise for Growth’ by becoming a simpler, more agile and effective organisation.
“HSBC’s ambition is to be the preferred international financial partner for our clients and in Bahrain we continue to provide the full range of personal, wholesale and private banking services to our customers.”
The clarification came after an announcement in the Official Gazette said that the Wholesale Bank (Branch) licence of HSBC Bank Middle East Limited issued on March 31, 1979, falling under commercial registration No 10281, had been cancelled.
This followed a notice about the licence cancellation put out by the Central Bank of Bahrain in the local media dated last Tuesday.
