Social Development Minister Osama Al Asfoor highlighted the progress made by Bahrain in protecting children’s rights.
The minister noted the role of official, private and civil society entities to ensure the highest levels of protection for children, to safeguard their rights to education, health and care in a safe environment, and ensure a bright future for them.
Marking the World Children’s Day, Mr Al Asfoor affirmed Bahrain’s keenness on supporting children rights, through applying advanced laws and legislation. Those include the law on restorative justice for children and their protection from mistreatment, especially those under the age of 18.
He said this law strengthened the role of the Child Protection Centre, which is under the Social Development Ministry.
The centre is the main entity responsible for protecting children and the assessment and follow up on the cases of children who have been subjected to abuse. It also follows up on cases of juvenile delinquents facing potential risk, through policies, legislation, programmes and services that ensure the protection of children, in addition to raising awareness on children’s issues.
The minister said that the Child Rescue and Support Line 998 operates 24 hours a day to receive calls from children or others regarding cases of exposure to mistreatment.
