Tickets for the kingdom’s top pop culture experience have gone on sale as excitement builds with the announcement of a top wrestler flying in for the event.
The Bahrain Comic Con (BCC) 2024 is set to take place on April 26 and 27 at the Bahrain International Circuit, under the patronage of Supreme Council for Youth and Sport first deputy chairman, General Sports Authority chairman and Bahrain Olympic Committee president Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa.
Former World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) champion Paul Wight, better known by his monicker Big Show, will make his first regional appearance during the much anticipated event.
“Last year, 35,000 people attended the Bahrain Comic Con, and this year, we are aiming for 40,000,” BCC organisers Dallah Promotions’ managing partner Salman Bukhari told the GDN.
“Every year, we want to do something new and exciting for our loyal fans, and this time is no different.
“There will be amazing collectibles that have not been seen before and a whole slew of entertainment.”
Mr Wight has become the fifth celebrity to be announced ahead of the event.
The seven-foot tall wrestler is best known for his tenure with World Championship Wrestling (WCW) from 1995 to 1999 as The Giant and his stint with WWE from 1999 to 2021 under the ring name Big Show.
Between WWF/WWE and WCW, he has held 23 championships – including being a seven-time world champion, having held the WCW World Heavyweight Championship twice, the WWE Championship twice, WWE’s World Heavyweight Championship twice and the ECW World Heavyweight Championship once. He is the only wrestler who has won all four titles.
Outside of professional wrestling, Wight has made appearances in feature films and television series such as Jingle All the Way, The Waterboy, Star Trek: Enterprise, Royal Pains, Psych and Burn Notice as well as in the lead roles in the Netflix sitcom The Big Show.
He is currently signed to All Elite Wrestling (AEW) as a wrestler, under his real name.
The four other celebrities to be confirmed for this year’s BCC are: Steven John Ward, best known for playing Dracule Mihawk in the live-action adaptation of One Piece; Manu Bennett, recognisable from his role as Deathstroke in the Arrow TV show; Ross Marquand, known for his roles in The Walking Dead, Avengers: Infinity War, and voice-over work in Doctor Strange, What If?, and X-Men ‘97; and, Chris Bartlett, who is known for playing a number of characters within the Star Wars TV universe, especially robots like C-3PO, RA-7 and 1-JAC.
In addition, iconic animator Mehdi Aouichaoui, known for his work on Dragon Ball Super: Broly, My Hero Academia, One Piece, Star Wars: Visions and other animated shows, will also be appearing at the festival.
This year, there will be a special treat for fans with a spectacular wrestling show put on by Bahrain’s Kingdom Pro Wrestling league.
The MxM tag team, comprised of professional wrestler Brennan Marcel Williams better known as Mason Madden and WWE’s first Saudi Arabian-born superstar Mansoor Abdul Aziz Al Shehail, have announced that they will be part of the show.
