A ONE-MAN mission to provide 300 quality work opportunities for job-seeking Bahrainis is set to kick off next month.
MP Mohammed Janahi has become the first parliamentarian to announce a ‘career expo’ initiative to find suitable positions for unemployed nationals and those seeking to enhance their careers.
Under the Ro’aya (Vision) Employment Forum and Exhibition on June 8 at the Golden Tulip Bahrain, executives from 40 major companies are set to meet with potential candidates.
“We have to take the initiative and help the state get jobs for citizens,” said Mr Janahi during a media conference held at the venue yesterday.
“MPs should contribute with solutions to the unemployment problem currently plaguing our society and shouldn’t stand back idle,” he added. “I am not saying there are no efforts to get jobs for Bahrainis, but often it is on a case-by-case basis, rather than being directed at a large segment of the community.”
Mr Janahi believes both new job-seekers and those seeking better pay and working conditions could benefit from the career expo.
“There are quality jobs out there and, hopefully, this is an opportunity not only for those hoping to find their dream job but also national and multi-national companies operating in the country and their recruiters seeking to improve their workforce,” he said.
He stressed that the jobs on offer were only for Bahrainis.
“Expats have their own employment channels that are different from nationals and in line with rules, regulations and our patriotic stand, jobs available at this event will only be open to Bahrainis,” he explained.
Meanwhile, Gulf Future Business representative Marwa Radwan said 100 free training opportunities would also be available at the event. “Our training programmes are backed by Tamkeen and Microsoft and are mostly in IT,” she said.
“Many of those who have joined with us have gone on to secure full-time positions, often in the places we have sent them to train at. Others have launched their own businesses, have become entrepreneurs.”
The Ro’aya initiative is also being supported by Amazing Bahrain and Bahrain Business Hub.
