A French documentary film will be screened in Bahrain to coincide with the 60th anniversary of the Tokyo Olympic Games this year and to mark the 2024 Paris Olympic Games which starts on Friday.
Released in 2021, in Les Sorcières de l’Orient (The Witches of the Orient) French director Julien Faraut meets five former volleyball players from the Japanese team nicknamed the ‘Witches of the Orient’.
With their testimonies and archive footage, he tells the story of their journey, from their beginnings as young workers to their Olympic victory at the Tokyo Games in 1964.
The screening will be held at 5pm at the Bahrain National Museum Theatre on Monday.
The event is being organised by the Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities in collaboration with the Japanese Embassy, the French Embassy, Alliance Française Bahrain and Institut Français.
