Two tourist police officers in Astana, Kazakhstan, have been sacked after a video showing an interaction with an Egyptian content creator went viral.
The travel vlogger, Haggagovic, posted footage on social media showing him picking up an officer in uniform and spinning her around while she was on duty.
The video sparked a debate online over whether the officers were simply being friendly with a visitor or if their conduct crossed professional boundaries.
The Astana Police Department launched an internal investigation and concluded that the officers’ behaviour in uniform had damaged the agency’s reputation.
"A police officer is obliged to maintain professional distance and follow the established code of conduct in all situations," the department said in a statement.
Haggagovic, who has 1.3 million subscribers, is known for his signature stunt of lifting random passers-by during his global travels.
