Japanese Emperor Naruhito’s 65th birthday was commemorated by the country’s embassy yesterday during a special reception held at the Gulf Convention Centre.
Diplomats, members of the media and distinguished guests attended, with opening remarks delivered by Industry and Commerce Minister Abdulla bin Adel Fakhro, as well as Japanese Ambassador Asako Okai.
Mr Fakhro extended congratulations to Japan on behalf of His Majesty King Hamad, and highlighted bilateral ties between the two countries during his speech.
“The relationship between Japan and Bahrain dates back to 1934, beginning with the export of crude oil, even before the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1972,” Ms Okai said in her remarks.
“Over the years, our bonds have grown stronger, and today we enjoy a comprehensive partnership that spans high-level engagements, economic co-operation, cultural exchanges, security collaboration, innovation, and both regional and global agendas.”
A cake-cutting ceremony was also held to mark the occasion.
