Tributes have been paid to a top Bahrain-based banker who has died at the age of 58.
A mass will be held at the Sacred Heart Church tomorrow at noon to honour the memory of Christophe Mariot.
The French expatriate was managing director, GCC at BNP Paribas and leaves behind wife Alexandra and daughters Alienor, Aurore and Auriane.
Friends and family will also be joining together in celebration of his life at the Moroccan majlis at the Ritz-Carlton Bahrain tonight.
In a social media post, daughter Alienor said: “The outpouring of love and support from the Bahrain community would have truly given him the confirmation (he did not need), as to why he loved Bahrain more than anyone I know. From the bottom of my heart, thank you to all of you.”
The family said that Mr Mariot had been bravely battling Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), a rare, terminal neurodegenerative disorder. He was known for his love of sports cars and fine cuisine and was a member of the kingdom’s branch of the Chaine des Rotisseurs.
He first joined BNP Paribas in London in 1991 and moved to Bahrain in 1998. Industry journals reported that Mr Mariot had worked on the Shams 1 project in Abu Dhabi, the largest solar power scheme in the Middle East. He was also involved in other projects in the refining, industry and social infrastructure sectors.
Mr Mariot held a master’s degree in business administration in finance from Paris-based Ecole Superieure de Commerce.
