A SERIES of cultural events showcasing Russian heritage will be staged in the kingdom this year as part of the Russian Seasons programme, coinciding with the 35th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Bahrain and Russia.
The world-renowned ballet The Nutcracker will perform at Bahrain National Theatre later this year.

The Ossipov National Academic Folk Instruments Orchestra will also showcase their skills at the Cultural Hall, accompanied by a Bahraini folk band. The dates for the acts will be announced later.
The Russian Seasons programme kicked off with the Mariinsky Orchestra concert at Bahrain National Theatre in January. It was followed by a performance by the Lezginka dance ensemble from Dagestan last month, with both events also being a part of the Spring of Culture.

Russian Seasons is being held following a Memorandum of Understanding signed between the Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities and the Russian Culture Ministry, during His Majesty King Hamad’s visit to the Russia.
Bahrain’s Cultural Days, a programme to showcase the kingdom’s art and heritage, was inaugurated in Moscow in November last year. An exhibition entitled Treasures of Bahrain: The Art of Gold Crafting Through the Ages, showcasing Bahraini gold craftsmanship, was held at the State Historical Museum, Moscow, as part of the programme.

The event offered a fascinating insight into the history of gold craftsmanship in Bahrain, tracing its evolution from the Tylos period more than 2,000 years ago, through the Islamic era, and into the modern age.
Items from the Al Mannai Jewellery collection, as well as tools and documents were on display, showcasing the kingdom’s efforts to preserve this distinguished craft and its vital role in the local economy.
