A Spanish tourist who was trapped inside a narrow shaft in the Bent Pyramid of Sneferu in Egypt was rescued after a complex operation on Sunday.
The tourist had slipped on a steep wooden slope inside one of the pyramid’s narrow passages, reportedly breaking a foot.
Egyptian authorities dispatched a specialised team to the site in the Dahshur archaeological area, where a crew led the rescue efforts.
According to an Egyptian Health Ministry spokesperson, the ambulance crew had to enter the pyramid through a narrow passageway extending approximately 80 metres underground, with a width of no more than one metre, which took exceptional effort due to the cramped space and poor ventilation.
The operation took several hours, during which the team provided first aid to the tourist, then carefully transported her back up the narrow stone passages to the surface of the pyramid.
The woman was safely extracted and transported to a nearby hospital for further treatment.
