Parliament has unanimously approved an urgent proposal calling on the government to swiftly disburse financial bonuses and formally honour members of the Bahrain national handball team following their victory in the Islamic Solidarity Games.
The proposal, submitted by five MPs led by Jalila Al Sayed, was yesterday referred to the Cabinet for review.
The MPs said the team’s achievement represents a ‘powerful moment of national pride’ that deserves prompt government recognition, in line with the kingdom’s support for Bahraini sports on the regional and international stage.
MP Mohammed Al Olaiwi, a co-signee of the proposal, said the players’ triumph demonstrated exemplary dedication.
“Our national team raised Bahrain’s flag high with determination, discipline and true national spirit,” Mr Al Olaiwi told the chamber.
“Victories like this do not happen by chance, they are the result of years of hard training and sacrifice. The least we can do is ensure they receive immediate material and moral appreciation.”
He stressed that honouring the team would send a strong message to the sporting community and the youth sector.
“Rewarding our champions is an investment in the next generation,” he said.
“When young Bahrainis see that excellence is recognised without delay, it motivates them to strive harder and represent the kingdom with pride.”
Parliament financial and economic affairs committee chairman MP Ahmed Al Salloom said the achievement was reflection of Bahrain’s rising regional standing.
“The Warriors team has proven once again that Bahraini talent can compete and win on any stage,” Mr Al Salloom said. “These young men carried our national identity with honour. Their reward must reflect the scale of their achievement and encourage more successes in the future.”
