THE Embassy of Italy in Bahrain announced yesterday that celebrations of Italian Sports Day will be held in conjunction with Ironman 70.3 Bahrain, under the patronage of His Majesty King Hamad’s representative for humanitarian work and youth affairs and Supreme Council for Youth and Sport (SCYS) chairman Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa.
The embassy welcomes athletes, sports enthusiasts, and the Bahraini community until Friday to ‘Punto Italia’ at the Ironman Village – a vibrant hub showcasing Italy’s passion for sport and its global achievements. The initiative forms part of the worldwide celebrations of Italian Sports Day, as the nation eagerly looks forward to two major international events: the Winter Olympic Games in Milan-Cortina 2026 and the Mediterranean Olympic Games in Taranto 2026.
The sports industry in Italy is a vital pillar of the national economy, generating EUR24.7 billion in added value, employing more than 400,000 people, and contributing approximately 1.5 per cent of the country’s GDP. With exports of sports goods reaching EUR4.7 billion, Italy proudly ranks among the top five global exporters and holds the position of second in the European Union.
Beyond these figures, Italian champions continue to inspire audiences worldwide, embodying excellence, resilience, and unmatched talent that reflect the nation’s enduring passion for sport.
Ironman 70.3 Bahrain provides the perfect stage to highlight Italy’s sporting spirit and strengthen cultural ties between Italy and Bahrain. Visitors to ‘Punto Italia’ can experience interactive exhibits, Italian sports innovations, and a celebration of the values that unite both nations: dedication, teamwork, and passion for excellence.
Italian Ambassador to Bahrain Andrea Catalano said: “Italian Sports Day is not only a celebration of our champions and industry, but also a bridge of friendship with Bahrain.
“Through sport, we share values of perseverance, inclusivity, and international co-operation. We are honoured to celebrate this occasion alongside Ironman 70.3 Bahrain, under the patronage of His Highness Shaikh Nasser.
“We are also proud that Italian athletes race for Bahrain in the Victorious team, who represent the strength and talent of Italian cycling on the world stage.”
