The Pakistani Women’s Association (PWA) has announced its new board for 2026 alongside a range of community initiatives aimed at supporting underprivileged people in Bahrain.
Bringing together experienced members from previous years and fresh voices, the newly-formed board is united in its goal to advance the organisation’s mission and vision.
The 2026 team includes president Shahmeen Islam, vice-president Wajeeha Zarrar, general secretary Saba Saleem, assistant general secretary Isma Farhan, treasurer Faiza Gulzar, public relations head Rahila Nadeem and community head Syeda Ayesha.
“This year promises to be power-packed, driven by fresh ideas, renewed energy and a strong commitment to community service,” Ms Islam told the GDN.
“One of PWA’s longstanding initiatives is the Education Scholarship Fund, which has been supporting students for more than two decades.”
The fund currently helps 35 to 40 students every month. These students are predominantly Pakistani; however, it also supports other nationalities if needed.
“Many of the students who have benefited from this initiative have gone on to become doctors and engineers, which makes us incredibly proud,” Ms Islam said.
PWA, a registered charity under the Social Development Ministry since 1998, will host a major fundraiser in the first half of the year to support its scholarship fund. Event details will be announced shortly.

“In addition, a Ramadan drive will be held next month distributing ration bags valued at BD20 to BD30 and organising Iftar meals,” added Ms Islam.
“In the past few years, we have also hosted a special iftar dinner for children with special needs.”
PWA’s community initiatives extend beyond fundraising. The group is planning to hold hygiene drives, distributing kits to labourers, as well as its annual refreshment drive.
The summer event involves the distribution of thermos bottles to labourers, helping them stay hydrated in extreme heat while reducing plastic use.
“After each event, we notice that people are inspired to engage more in charitable work,” Ms Islam explained, adding that it is heartening to see not only the Pakistani community but also other nationalities coming together to support the initiatives.
She also highlighted the role women play in PWA.
“Women have an extraordinary capacity to give back to the community, and the more who step forward, the greater the impact of our work,” she said.
“The same goes for students. Through our youth programme, they are given a platform to contribute meaningfully, and we consistently see their commitment and enthusiasm.”
The PWA has invited women to join as members and further help its cause. Those interested can follow p_w_a_bahrain on Instagram.
