The blatant Iranian attacks targeting countries in the region constitute a violation of state sovereignty and international laws and norms and pose a threat to global peace and security.
This was underscored as His Majesty King Hamad met Jordan’s King Abdullah II during his visit to Bahrain yesterday.
The meeting was attended by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, His Majesty’s Personal Representative Shaikh Abdulla bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the King’s Representative for humanitarian work and youth affairs and National Security Adviser Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa and ministers.
His Majesty welcomed King Abdullah and discussed regional developments and their implications for security and stability in the region.
King Abdullah reiterated Jordan’s solidarity with Bahrain in the measures it undertakes to defend its sovereignty, security, and stability, and to ensure the safety of its citizens. His Majesty also underscored Bahrain’s solidarity with Jordan in the face of Iranian attacks targeting its sovereignty and security.
The leaders stressed the points addressed by UN Security Council Resolution 2817, which strongly condemned and demanded the immediate cessation of all attacks launched by Iran on the Arab Gulf states and Jordan, and the immediate, unconditional cessation of any provocation or threat to neighbouring countries.
They emphasised the utmost importance of ending Iran’s threats to disrupt the freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, a vital international waterway for oil supplies and global trade, which is a violation of international law and the Law of the Sea. They stressed that the protection of maritime routes is a shared international responsibility that requires the co-operation of everyone in the region and the world.
During the meeting, the leaders reviewed the deep-rooted ties and ways to support and develop co-operation, co-ordination, and joint action. They commended the advanced level these distinguished relations have reached and the keenness to continue strengthening and documenting them in all domains that serve the aspirations of both countries and benefit the two peoples.
