Lulu Group chairman and managing director Yusuffali M A has assured citizens and residents that there will be no shortages or price hikes for essential goods in Bahrain, despite ongoing regional challenges.
Speaking to the media during a visit to the group’s flagship hypermarket in Dana Mall yesterday, Mr Yusuffali confirmed that the retail giant has secured sufficient stocks of more than 600 essential items to last at least 45 days.
The visit followed a meeting with His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, during which Mr Yusuffali reaffirmed the group’s commitment to the kingdom’s food security.
To bolster local availability, the group has reinforced the kingdom’s supply chain by airlifting more than 650 tonnes of groceries, fresh fruits, vegetables and meat. The operation, involving 70 dedicated cargo flights, was carried out in co-ordination with national carrier Gulf Air and additional chartered services.
“I want to tell the people that there will be no shortages here,” Mr Yusuffali said. “This applies to everyone – Bahraini nationals and expatriates alike. We have brought in products from all over the world, from Norwegian salmon to fresh meat, fruits and vegetables. There is no need for concern.”
The 650 tonnes of air freight form part of a broader 1,550-tonne supply injection, which includes 600 tonnes moved via land and 300 tonnes by sea to bypass global logistics disruptions.
Mr Yusuffali credited the group’s vast international sourcing network, which spans 85 countries and is supported by 21 on-the-ground sourcing offices. He revealed that he recently spoke with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who pledged full support for the procurement of food products for Bahrain.
Addressing concerns over rising global freight rates and fuel prices, Mr Yusuffali stated that LuLu Group is committed to shielding consumers from increased costs.
“This is the time for us to see how we can protect our customers. We are committed to ensuring that we do not simply pass these costs on to the people of Bahrain,” he stressed.
The chairman noted that the group is utilising advanced digital systems to manage inventory across its 260 global stores – including 252 across the GCC – ensuring that any potential gaps in the supply chain are addressed before they reach the shelves.
Expressing his deep gratitude to His Majesty King Hamad and HRH the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, Mr Yusuffali praised the leadership’s proactive approach and equal treatment of all residents.
“I have been here for more than 15 years, and the greatness of this country is that the leadership treats citizens and expatriates the same. We are part of this community,” he said. “Anything you need is available. I can tell you now: there is no shortage.”
