In these times of growth for our nation, the strength of our national airline is more important than ever. I am a firm supporter of Gulf Air and wish to see it thrive as a leader in the region. To support this goal, I would like to discuss a recent situation, as I believe your intervention will help maintain the prestigious reputation of both the airline and our country.
Here I wish to bring your urgent attention to the hardships being faced by the Indian expatriate community in Bahrain due to the ongoing regional conflicts and the closure of Bahrain Airport for the past month.
Flight operations are currently through Dammam. This situation has pushed both small and large-scale businesses into a financial crisis. Many establishments are struggling to survive, leading to a significant increase in the cost of essential commodities.
The expatriate community is facing a dire situation:
Medical Emergencies: Many individuals who depend on life-saving medicines from India are struggling as supplies have been cut off.
Stranded Visitors: Numerous people who arrived on visit visas are now stranded without the means to sustain themselves.
Exorbitant Fares: Currently, Gulf Air is the only viable option for many to return home. However, ticket prices ranging from BD330 to BD360 are far beyond the reach of an ordinary expatriate in this crisis. Most people cannot afford the heavy costs associated with private chartered flights.
Given these humanitarian grounds, we earnestly request the Gulf Air management to intervene and provide relief.
We appeal to you to regulate and reduce ticket fares to a reasonable level that common people can afford.
Please operate direct services (or organised relief flights) to major Indian airports, including Kochi, Calicut, and Trivandrum, to facilitate the safe and affordable return of those in distress.
We trust that Gulf Air, as a responsible national carrier, will take a favourable decision at the earliest to support the community during these trying times.
I would like to thank you in advance for your attention to maintaining the high standards of service your airline is known for.
