A young man who ‘couldn’t contain himself’ and stabbed a teenager, who allegedly disrespected his mother and sister, has been sentenced to five years in prison.
The High Criminal Court found the 24-year-old Bahraini guilty of assaulting the 19-year-old, who required emergency surgery after a 7cm-long serrated blade was plunged into his chest.
The victim was left with a permanent scar as a result of the defendant’s wrath.
During the confrontation, which took place on Malikiya Beach, the defendant admitted that he had pulled out a knife and planted it in the middle of his foe’s chest to defend his sister’s honour.
He then complained when the victim’s friends beat him up.
“He and I were chatting on Snapchat, when he insulted my honour and said extremely vulgar things about my mother and sister,” the defendant earlier recounted.
“So, I told him to meet me at 6am on Malikiya beach. He came with four friends, but I asked to speak with him in private.
“I remembered how he insulted my family members and felt so angry that I couldn’t help myself, and I took out my knife, unfolded it and stabbed him with it. The knife penetrated his chest.”
“It happened very quickly and no one realised what was going on. As soon as I pulled out the blade, his friends beat me up.”
“I threatened them with my second knife not to call the police. I said: ‘Try me and you’ll see’. But they called the authorities anyway.”
“It was unfair how they all dogpiled me. I’m just one guy and they were five.”
The teenage victim was taken to Salmaniya Medical Complex (SMC), where he underwent exploratory surgery, which required for his chest to be opened in procedure known as a sternotomy.
After opening his chest, doctors found that excess blood needed to be drained with a chest tube.
The procedure left a long, thick scar on the Bahraini teen’s chest, which the medical expert said was a 1pc disability.
A detective testified that two knives were found at the crime scene.
