Tributes are pouring in for a former Bahrain resident, who called the kingdom home for more than two decades, after an accidental slip in his bathroom led to his untimely death.
S Veerapandian, known fondly amongst friends as ‘Veera’, died aged 72 in his hometown of Chennai, India, last Thursday, after medical complications arose as a result of his fall.
Mr Veerapandian had lived in Bahrain for 22 years, between 1996 and 2018, during which time he held several senior managerial roles in a number of insurance companies including New India Assurance, Al Ahlia and Solidarity.
His former colleague Vineet Kumar called him ‘a gem of a human, known for his trademark grey hairs, smile, wit and sense of humour.’
“As an insurance professional he was well known for providing excellent customer service, building relationships across corporate and retail customers alike, helping members of staff and other employees, making friends and across various societies and communities with his trademark smile,” Mr Kumar recalled.
Mr Veerapandian lived primarily in Mansoor Gardens in Budaiya during his time in Bahrain, where, alongside his wife, Mallika, he helped raise their two treasured daughters Divya and Vidya, who studied at the Indian School Bahrain and are now settled in the US and UAE.
The Indian expatriate was also an active member of the Bahrain Insurance Association, as well as other Indian sociocultural organisations, and maintained ties with the kingdom even after his departure.
“During his recent calls to friends in Bahrain, he was very worried about the evolving situation here and wished the residents and citizens well for their safety and health,” Mr Kumar added.
