MP Abdulhakim Al Sheno invited Bahraini jobseekers who had their monthly unemployment allowances cut because they had not accepted jobs.
He showcased 27-year-old Ahmed Raghib, who was born with a hand disability. Mr Raghib, married with children, was invited as a guest to the session.
“Mr Raghib was asked by the Labour Ministry to accept any job so as not to lose his allowance as he was told that employers wouldn’t call him for an available job of a painter,” claimed Mr Al Sheno.
“The company accepted his application, but when he showed up, he was told that the job didn’t suit him physically.
“He ended up losing his allowance. There are others invited here who have lost their allowances for one circumstance or another.”
Mr Raghib told the MP that he was more than capable of being a painter and having a shortened hand should not have ruled him out. “I would have loved being a painter,” he said.
