India's National Testing Agency (NTA) on Tuesday cancelled the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test Undergraduate (NEET-UG) 2026 amid allegations that the question paper had been leaked the night before the May 3 examination.
The examination, which assesses eligibility for admission to undergraduate medical programmes across India, will now be re-conducted on fresh dates to be announced separately.
The NTA said the decision was taken to ensure transparency in the examination and evaluation processes and to preserve public trust in the system. The agency's review established that the examination process "could not be allowed to stand".
The investigation into the alleged leak has been taken over by India's Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
More than 2.2 million students appeared for the examination this year.
