A teacher has been placed in provisional detention for allegedly repeatedly assaulting a student with disabilities inside a classroom.
According to the Public Prosecution, the case came to light after the student’s mother filed a complaint at Khamis Police Station upon learning of the incident.
The report stated that the mother was informed after a school supervisor allegedly witnessed the teacher striking the student during class.
Authorities immediately launched an urgent investigation, reviewing the school’s CCTV footage and collecting witness statements.
The accused was interrogated and confronted with the evidence gathered.
The Public Prosecution subsequently ordered that he be remanded in custody pending investigation, as enquiries continue in preparation for referral to the competent court.
Authorities stressed that protecting children, particularly students with disabilities and learning difficulties, is both a societal and legal responsibility. They underlined the need to provide appropriate care, inclusion and support within the educational environment in a manner that safeguards students’ dignity and their psychological and physical wellbeing.
They further emphasised that teachers and those responsible for the educational process bear a duty of care and must treat such students with due regard for their needs and circumstances.
The Public Prosecution affirmed that it will not hesitate to take firm action against anyone found to have violated the law.
