THE Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) won the ‘Best Use of Social Media’ and ‘Best Athlete Support Programme’ awards at the Middle East Sports Industry Awards (SPIA), in recognition of its efforts in hosting the third Asian Youth Games (AYG) held in the kingdom last year.
The awards were received during a ceremony held in Dubai by BOC secretary general Faris Al Kooheji, AYG executive committee chairman Yousif Duaij, and BOC chief operations officer and AYG executive committee vice-chairman Ahmed Abdulghaffar.
The SPIA is regarded among the leading specialised sports awards in the Middle East, recognising leaders, decision-makers, institutions, facilities, and sports campaigns that contribute to the development of sport across the region.
Supreme Council for Youth and Sport (SCYS) first deputy chairman, General Sports Authority chairman and BOC president Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa said that the achievement reflects Bahrain’s distinguished standing on the Asian and international sports landscape.
Shaikh Khalid noted that the achievement was made possible through the support of His Majesty King Hamad and the backing of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister.
He also affirmed that the achievement reflects the support and attention of His Majesty’s representative for humanitarian work and youth affairs and SCYS chairman Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa.
