Royal Medical Services Commander Brigadier General Dr Shaikh Fahad bin Khalifa Al Khalifa said the hospitals and medical centres under the RMS continue to achieve advanced medical milestones that reflect the progress of the military healthcare system and reinforce its position as a leading regional centre for specialist healthcare services in line with the highest international standards.
Dr Shaikh Fahad confirmed that the Military Hospital has achieved notable success in precise robotic surgery, carrying out around 200 advanced robotic procedures across several specialities, including orthopaedic, urological and tumour removal surgeries, using the latest medical technologies. This has contributed to higher success rates, fewer complications and faster patient recovery times.
He noted that King Hamad University Hospital has achieved significant milestones in specialist medical services and organ transplantation programmes, with around 100 organ transplants performed, including kidney and liver transplants. This reflects the high level of medical competence and expertise in this field.
In cardiology, he explained that the Mohammed bin Khalifa Bin Salman Al Khalifa Specialist Cardiac Centre has continued its outstanding performance, carrying out more than 100,000 successful cardiac catheterisation procedures since its establishment. This further confirms the centre’s high efficiency and advanced expertise in diagnosing and treating heart disease in line with the latest international medical standards.
Dr Shaikh Fahad also highlighted the academic and medical achievement of the Bahrain Oncology Centre, where the Gynaecological Oncology Surgery Unit has received European accreditation as a certified training centre in gynaecological cancer surgery.
It is the first centre in Bahrain and the Gulf region to receive this accreditation from the European Society of Gynaecological Oncology.
This international recognition crowns the unit’s strong clinical performance, which recently included more than 100 complex and advanced gynaecological cancer surgeries in under eight months.
This reflects strong international confidence in the competence of its medical staff, as well as its advanced infrastructure and training programmes.
He added that these achievements are made possible thanks to the support of His Majesty King Hamad, Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, the close follow-up and support of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces and Prime Minister, and the support of BDF Commander-in-Chief Field Marshal Shaikh Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Khalifa.
