Youth City 2030, an annual series of artistic, scientific, athletic and entrepreneurial programmes aimed at young people, kicks off today at the Exhibition World Bahrain in Sakhir.
Organised by the Youth Affairs Ministry in co-operation with Tamkeen (Labour Fund), the six-week-long initiative offers workshops and opportunities aimed at young people aged nine to 35.
Yesterday, ministry under-secretary Marwan Kamal went on a site visit to Youth City 2023 ahead of its launch, to check on the final preparations, inspect the premises and meet the organisers.
“Youth City 2030 exemplifies Majesty King Hamad’s representative for humanitarian work and youth affairs and Supreme Council for Youth and Sport (SCYS) chairman Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa’s instructions to invest in Bahraini youth and enable them to gain skills and knowledge that qualifies them for the future,” he said in a statement.
“I believe that Youth City 2030 is ready and will be launched successfully.”
He also thanked the organising committees and event partners in making the initiative possible, adding that he appreciates the spirit of co-operation on which the success of the event is built.
Mr Kamal called on young people to make the best of the training programmes and special opportunities offered with a space for creativity to run wild.
Workshops in the 15th edition of Youth City 2030 fall under five categories: leadership and entrepreneurship, media and entertainment, arts and culture, science and technology, and Sports City.
Until August 20, classes will be held over two sessions, morning (9am-2pm) for participants aged nine to 14, and evening (3.30pm-9pm) for those aged 15 to 35.
Youth City 2030 was launched by Shaikh Nasser in 2010.
Last year it featured more than 230 workshops which attracted more than 4,400 young participants. A Youth Market also unveiled more than 84 projects, while 140 projects featured under the ‘Young Traders’ programme. The event attracted more than 5,000 visitors supported by 248 volunteers.
