VOLLEYBALL – Bahrain get their campaign underway today in the AVC Boys’ U18 Volleyball Championship 2026, taking place in Haikou, China.
The kingdom’s youth men’s spikers are set to take on their counterparts from India in their opening preliminary Pool B fixture, scheduled for a 5am start, Bahrain time.
Both squads are part of a 16-strong field that will be hitting the court in the tournament, which is being organised by the Asian Volleyball Confederation (AVC).
The competition was originally set to be hosted by Bahrain, but was forced to relocate due to the unfortunate events in the region.
Bahrain and India are in Pool B along with the Philippines and Iran.
Pool A features defending champions China, Chinese Taipei, Hong Kong, and Indonesia.
Pool C is composed of Pakistan, Thailand, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan; while Pool D includes Japan, South Korea, Australia, and Saudi Arabia.
Bahrain have a 13-player roster in the championship, including Abbas Mohamed, Ahmed Husain, Ali Abdulla, Ammar Ebrahim, Ebrahim Al Hamar, Hadi Ahmed, Hussain Albalooshi, Karrar Yaqoob, Mohamed Haram, Mohamed Kadhem, Mustafa Ebrahim, Nasralla Haram, and Sayed Hasan Alabbar.
They are coached by Yusuf Khalifa.
The nationals attended the event’s official welcome dinner on Friday while team officials participated in yesterday’s technical meeting, where their official uniforms were presented and approved by the AVC.
Following their assignment today, the nationals play the Philippines tomorrow at 8am, before completing their schedule for the preliminaries against Iran on Tuesday at 5am. Both times are also Bahrain.
At the end of the single round-robin, the top two teams from each pool move on to the quarter-finals.
