BASKETBALL – Bahrain representatives Seef suffered a losing start last night in Caceres Challenger in Spain, part of the Fiba 3x3 World Tour 2026.
Seef went down fighting 13-18 to Amsterdam Rabobank from the Netherlands in their opening Pool B fixture of the outdoor competition’s preliminary round.
The kingdom’s squad battled hard and trailed by just one point, 12-13, following a Bogdan Dragovic two-pointer, but then the Dutch closed the game strong to come away with their victory.
Uros Ilic finished as Seef’s leading scorer in the loss with eight points, while Austin Ajukwa scored three and Dragovic two points.
Elyas Younes did not score for the Bahrainis.
Seef will be looking to bounce back when they play their second Pool B game against Spanish side Fuengirola.
They will be hoping to finish in their group’s top two to earn a spot in the quarter-finals, which are to be played today.
Seef are one of 12 teams from around the world in the event.
Pool A features Ub from Serbia, Valencia Basket from Spain, and Cibona Ph. Classic from Croatia; Pool C is composed of Vienna from Austria, DeQing from China, and Toronto from Canada; and Pool D includes Baskets Bonn from Germany, Ulaanbaatar MMC Energy from Mongolia, and Warsaw from Poland.
The Fiba 3x3 World Tour is the premier international street basketball series featuring tournaments of various levels held around the world.
Masters events are the highest-tier, followed by Challengers.
This weekend’s Caceres Challenger also acts as a qualifier for the Debrecen Masters, slated for August 29 and 30 in Hungary.
Later this year, Bahrain will be delighting basketball fans with the third edition of the Manama Masters, scheduled for November 20 and 21.
