The High Criminal Court of Appeal has upheld a one-year prison sentence against a lawyer convicted of fraudulently obtaining BD14,000 from a client. The court also upheld the referral of the related civil claim to the competent court without costs.
Lawyer Manar Al Tamimi, representing the complainant, said her client initially paid the lawyer BD3,500 to represent her son in a criminal case. He later requested BD8,000, claiming it was needed to secure the son’s release on bail, followed by another BD6,000, allegedly to cover overseas legal consultations and preparation of case submissions.
Investigations showed the lawyer’s travel records contradicted his claims, while police testified that he faced similar cases using the same alleged method. He was charged with fraudulently obtaining the money through deception during 2025.
