Organisers of the 2026 Sydney Marathon unveiled a participation medal depicting the local skyline - only to face social media laughter after fans spotted a glaring error.
The two-sided medal features famous landmarks along the race route, including the Sydney Opera House, the Harbour Bridge, and Germany’s Allianz Arena in Munich.
Marathon organisers admitted the "unfortunate error" but took the gaffe in good humour.
"A little too much international flavour has found its way onto the back of the finishers' medal, with an incorrect depiction of the stadium," a marathon spokesperson said.
"We're not going to run from it. It was an unfortunate error, though it's certainly given everyone something to talk about this weekend, mostly in good humour."
The mix-up occurred because Sydney has its own venue named Allianz Stadium, but the design featured the distinctive tire-shaped architecture of Munich’s famous arena instead.
