FOOTBALL – Bahrain’s youth men’s football national team were drawn yesterday in a challenging group for the qualifiers of the AFC U17 Asian Cup 2027.
The nations looking to compete in the continental tournament learned of their opponents in qualification yesterday following the official draw held at the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) House in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Bahrain are in Group G, to be hosted by Oman, along with Kuwait, Lebanon, Brunei, and the Omanis.
They are among the 35-team field that has been divided into seven groups of five.
Each pool will contest a single round-robin at a centralised venue from November 8 to 20 later this year.
Group A is to be held in Myanmar, Group B in Thailand, Group C in the UAE, Group D in Laos, Group E in Malaysia, and Group F in Kyrgyzstan.
The seven group winners will join the nine AFC representatives from the Fifa U-17 World Cup 2026 who have automatically qualified for next year’s finals, namely Australia, China, South Korea, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Vietnam, and defending champions Japan.
The AFC U17 Asian Cup 2027 will be played in Uzbekistan from May 12 to 29 next year.
Bahrain’s youth men’s football national team is coached by Croatian tactician Ugo Klingor.
They recently held an overseas training camp in Muscat, Oman, during which they played a pair of friendly games against the home team in preparation for their upcoming competitions, including November’s AFC U17 Asian Cup 2027 qualifiers.
